Battat Terra

In 2015 Battat annouced the release of original figures with new colors. Dan passed away in the same year and the status of both sets is unclear. As the molds were old it is not cleat these made from the same molds as the BMOS or were remastered from the original sculpts. We obtained the repainted, newly released BMOS recasts by the late Dan LoRusso and sold at Target. Tyrannosaurus, Acrocanthosaurus, Amargasaurus, Certosaurus and Carnotaurus come in individual display boxes that are excellent for displaying or storing your figures. It was a long time dream for many collectors to see those figures released 1994 thru 1998 recast.  Prices on eBay for original figures have been running to hundreds of dollars and now you can get them for around $10 a box.  The figures have new colors but follow the same patterning as the originals. The Tyrannosaurus appears to be the version three, with the tail down for balance.  The original version which I would still be willing to buy, if recast, had balance problems.  This was corrected first by adding bases to the feet, the snowshoe version, then finally the version with a three point stand created by bring the tail down which is the recast.  There is also the very rare mini version. The Acrocanthosaurus is now in darker military green and looks to be leaning forward more than the original for a three point stand using the forearms. This was the first serious toy Acrocanthosaurus figure and was very exciting when I first got the original.  Reconstructions have changed, but it is still an attractive figure.  The Amargasaurus, and Carnotaurus were my first South American toy figures and the reconstructions have stood up well over time. The coloring feels more modern and realistic. Take care with storing the figures; the medium used is temperature sensitive. If exposed to high temperatures for any length of time, the balance could be affected. Battat has not set a schedule for releasing the remainder of the figures but pictures of the repaints have been posted to the web on Dinosaur Toy Forum.

Battat Diplodocus

This is a moment frozen in time.  Some figures included lie Euplocephalus were stand parts of sets at the time but are rarely reproduced now. Edmontonia, Ceratosaurus, Ouranosaurus and Amargasaurus are common now but firsts for serious toy sets. Modern reconstructions are mostly tail up and feathered. The Stegosaurus has four tail spikes on each side a reconstruction known to be wrong. When released the bright color, reconstructions and variety were overwhelming and the other companies changed.
