Carnegie Safari Apatosaurus

Carnegie Safari Apatosaurus 1988, 1989 and 1998 from the collection of Fred Synder.

In 2007  there were 3 new Carnegie figures, 12 repainted models. The 2007 Amargasaurus is sculpted like it is moving.  You can visualize it in action nothing slow or plodding.  The contrast with the old Battat figure, that is so widely copied that it has become a cliché, is eye catching.  Consumers can get use to their look and take them for granted that is why retailers like to have new products to show.  The solution at Safari was to repaint.  I received review samples of the new releases.  It isn’t just new colors but the paints appear more like washes that bring out details that have always been there.  The Brachiosaurus is blue green; Allosaurus is stone gray with a blood red topping as is, Spinosaurus.  Carnotaurus is yellow and green.  Elasmosaurus is light grey with a dark gray reticulated pattern.  There is a new gray color for Iguanodon it lets you see all the complex skin folds and the same is true for the Parasaurolophus with its high ridged spines. Stegosaurus is green with its plates flushed red in display mode. Tanystropheus and Velociraptor more earth colored and striped.  Quetzalcoatlus is well done a golden brown.    The original Triceratops is still there looking better than ever in its third incarnation of gold.  Some figures are just natural classics.
