The Santana Formation early Cenomanian, about 92 million years ago, in a shallow inland sea. At that time, the South Atlantic was opening up in a long narrow shallow sea.

The Santana Formation in eastern Brazil supported a wide range of Ornithocheirid pterosaurs. These are large and the last pterosaurs to possess teeth.
Anhanguera was a fish-eating animal with a wingspan of about 15 ft.
